My World

My World, 2003, fabric, thread, welting, snaps, velcro, batting, wood, raffia, screening, and sono tubes, 206 x 54 x 45 inches.
Site-specific work for my solo exhibition at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art, Brooklyn, New York, 2003.

My World is a giant tree of fabric that looks as though it’s pushing through the gallery’s ceiling. In conceiving this piece, I thought about the story of
Jack ’n the Beanstalk and the magical world he found above the clouds. While I was creating my fantastical world in the gallery, I made my “beanstalk” to represent all the possibilities that lay ahead.
